Advanced Compliance Technologies, PLLC (ACT) was formed by Dr. Ted A. Arkfeld in 2007 to train both doctors of chiropractic and their staff in correct coding, billing, and documentation. Healthcare is evolving rapidly and compliance to both Federal and State regulations can be a daunting task for doctors and their staff. With mandatory compliance programs for all healthcare providers fast approaching, you need a consulting company that can provide you with quality education and knowledge to ensure that your office is both profitable and compliant.
Compliance programs have many components and encompass such areas as:
- Coding and Billing
- HIPAA HITECH Security
Doctors of chiropractic were not formally trained in coding and billing for the services they provide. Many times such training was from the "hand me down" variety with many incorrect assumptions on coding causing substantial losses of revenue for a practice. Through the National Academy of Chiropractic Coders (NACC), we train, educate and certify doctors and insurance staff on correct coding and billing specifically for chiropractic procedures.
Probably least favorite aspect of being a doctor is the documentation of all patient encounters. In recent years an ever growing trend of post-payment audits has increased the importance of correct documentation on doctors of chiropractic. This does not have to be drudgery anymore, and with the right electronic health record system, (EHR) can increase efficiency and profitability in your practice. The chiropractic consultants at ACT, work closely with offices to teach correct documentation policies in order to meet and or exceed CPT, Medicare, and other third party payer requirements.
We live and practice in the world of the internet, and thus can be vulnerable to outside attacks from individuals wanting to place viruses on our systems, or worse yet, steal protected health information. The government recently announced that there will be increased audits of healthcare offices nationwide to ensure that security features are in place to protect your vital patient information. ACT has retained leading experts in hardware, networking, and cloud computing that can setup your office to meet all HITECH security requirements.
Many doctors never correlate compliance with profitability, yet that is the best outcome of having a compliance program for your office. Conservative figures state that 10% to 30% revenue leaks occur in chiropractic offices nationwide due to incorrect coding, billing, and documentation practices. Our compliance program's main goal is to identify and then stop revenue leaks in your office. In other words, we want you to get paid for the work you perform.
Ted A. Arkfeld, DC, MS, CPC graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1988. He practiced for thirteen years in Phoenix, Arizona prior to relocating to Gaylord, Michigan in 2001. For ten years he practiced in multidisciplinary offices, with the last three in a chronic pain clinic working alongside pain specialist, physical therapists, and family nurse practitioners.

In the fall of 2010 Dr. Arkfeld launched in cooperation with Genius Solutions, the National Academy of Chiropractic Coders (NACC). This is the first national organization that provided education and a certification for doctors of chiropractic and their insurance staff. With the successful passing of a rigorous online test consisting of 80 questions all on chiropractic coding, the designation of Certified Chiropractic Coder (CCC) is awarded.
