Advanced Compliance Technologies, PLLC was formed by Dr. Ted A. Arkfeld, who for 19 years was in clinical practice. He knows firsthand the day to day grind as it relates to insurance reimbursements and denials. The main goal of Advanced Compliance Technologies is to assist physicians from various specialties to fight back and take control of their practices once again. There are large amounts of monies leaking from practices due to billing, coding, and documentation errors.
Physicians today will face greater scrutiny of their billing, coding and documentation. Profiling of practices will become a common occurrence, along with post-payment audits. Denial of payments due to lack of medical necessity in the documentation is already sweeping across the country. If you do not think it can happen in your practice, please think again.
Many offices are not billing, coding or documenting correctly, which is costing them money due to lack of information. Physicians were not trained to bill and code; they rely on insurance staff or a mentor who taught them about practicing in the real world.
Dr. Arkfeld holds two certifications that separate him from other consulting companies. First he is a Certified Independent Chiropractic Examiner (CICE), and second, a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). These certifications have allowed him to review hundreds of files relating to injury causation, medical necessity issues, and proper billing and coding procedures.
When choosing a consultant you want someone with the credentials and information to substantiate their recommendations.
Advanced Compliance Technologies PLLC (ACT) is not your typical consulting company. With the anticipation of insurance profiling and post-payment audits being the norm in the healthcare setting, Dr. Ted A. Arkfeld founder and owner of ACT, believes the best offense is a good defense. His consulting expertise is focused on compliant documentation, proper billing and coding procedures. He is concerned that physicians across the country are taking the attitude that it will not happen to them. Any one who has or is undergoing a post-payment audit most likely thought the same thing. This is why in addition to clinical practice he is lecturing and writing on compliance related issues in the hope of sparing someone the agonizing experience of an audit.
His services include setting up correct documentation in order to meet or exceed Evaluation and Management coding criteria for new and established patient visits. His audits of files has found overwhelmingly that physicians are under coding on these visits causing a loss of potential revenues and red flags to insurance companies. Under coding is just as bad as coding for a higher service than performed. By under coding you maybe accused of offering a financial incentive to attract patients to your office. Federal Entitlement programs such as Medicare and Mail Handlers consider this a serious offense.
Other services include performing audits on current billing and coding procedures along with a review of all documentation. Recommendations on correct verbiage and the use of clinical assessment outcomes such as the Oswestry and Neck Disability will be given.
